Years 3 and 4 at Dulverton Junior School recently became Romans for the Day with the help of Oliver Martin and his links with the Exeter's Royal Albert Memorial Museum.
The workshop was designed to increase children’s knowledge and understanding about the Roman invasion and its impact on Iron Age life in south west Britain.
Through role-play, activities and object handling (replica and real) children decided whether to accept Roman rule, become a Roman or to fight for their traditional way of life.
To really get into the spirit of the day, children wore Roman fancy dress and made Roman shields which were used during ‘battle’!
Miss Ahern, year 3 class teacher said “All the children had a fantastic day, the workshop was really informative and it was great to bring the Romans to life through role play”.
